Profile

Georgetown, TN

I did my one rotation with Quality Machining Services in Cleveland, TN. They specialize in custom machined parts and industrial machines, specifically vacuum corrugators. Before that, I worked three rotations with Ellitek, Inc. in Knoxville, TN in assembly and machine-building getting final machinery out to customers.  Ellitek, Inc. does system integration, machine building, and data management. I worked wiring electrical panels and machine wiring and did custom machine installs at customer sites.

I found the experience invaluable and necessary to ensure my success in the engineering profession.

The best moments of my co-ops have been when a large machine is finally done, you can print the drawings, tape them to it, and ship it out. Knowing that you completed something worth thousands of dollars and ensure the customer's happiness is extremely rewarding.

I truly think I learned more about engineering in the field than I have in most of my classes, and it makes you feel ready to jump in feet first and be confident in your problem-solving and design skills.

I believe for the experience you receive, it is key to have an internship to give you that competitive edge and knowledge before entering the industry. It's one of the best returns on investment you can have and might shape the path of your whole career. I love woodworking, metalworking, and really anything hands-on.
