Profile

From: Dayton, TN

I performed a yearlong co-op with DENSO Manufacturing in Maryville, TN. DENSO specializes in the manufacturing of automotive components. I was assigned the production engineering group and spent time working with both the operations and planning sides of the group. This experience allowed me to perform many Kaizen projects and develop into a more well-rounded future engineer.

I decided to co-op to gain essential work experience. Having work experience sets you up to be a step ahead upon graduation. Another benefit of co-oping is having the chance to network on the working world.

One of the greatest lessons I learned in my co-op rotation is that it's okay to ask questions. Questioning what to do and why allows you to arrive at a solution quicker and more efficiently.

Being a co-op has allowed me to understand why I am doing the things I am in school. It provides you with an opportunity to practically apply the knowledge you have learned.

Taking a co-op will pay off for you when you are ready to enter the workforce after graduation. It is a great experience that allows for a great learning environment for you to grasp what it means to be an engineer.

When I have time for things other than studying or working I am active in playing intramural sports, reading, and when I return home I am active performing duties on a family farm.

Go Vols!
