I performed my co-op with John Deere Power Products which is located in Greeneville, TN. They manufacture riding and zero turn lawn mowers. On my co-op assignment I was a part of the Manufacturing Engineering Team for 12 consecutive months. I decided to co-op to learn how engineering was outside of the school environment and to gain valuable work experience.
On my co-op I learned that good communication is key!! Throughout many projects I participated in, it never failed that someone did not understand the content of the project leading to the prolonging of its delivery date. By participating in co-op I learned how to be a professional as it allowed me to understand manufacturing jargon while helping me to stand out in a crowd of students. As a student, I was able to take what I learned while on assignment and apply that to my academics.
Do not be afraid to accept positions that you have never considered because as a co-op/intern you want to get as much exposure to different fields as possible! Co-op truly provides great working experience with the potential of going all around the United States.
When I find time, I like to play Ultimate Frisbee and I like wakeboarding and snowboarding.
